Student Essay - Park Won Kyu, Year 7, Sayfol International School - Shipwrecked

Park Won Kyu, Year 7, Sayfol International School

Shipwrecked

It was a sunny morning. It was the best day to sail. We were very happy because we could explore one more country. My friend and I liked to travel to other countries. Our dream was to travel around the world. Before we sailed, we had some time left and we saw an old lady reading tarot cards. She looked as scary as a witch. She said to pick two cards. When we showed her our cards, she was surprised. She said we would die while sailing. Our crew members were all scared.

However, I just ignored her and said she was lying. The old lady insisted that it was not a lie. We started the journey to England. It was still sunny. We sailed for two hours. Suddenly, black clouds covered the sky and it rained very heavily. Our boat was shaking because of the large waves. We were horrified. Suddenly, large waves beat against the boat and broke it. There were wooden pieces everywhere. I thought we would die. But I saw a little island. We swam as hard as we could to the island.

When we arrived on the island, we all fainted. We were unconscious for a long time. I regained consciousness first. I shook my friends to wake them up. I shook them very hard. We all finally came to. But one of my friends was missing. We were so sad. I told my friends to cheer up. First, we looked around the island. It was very scary. We looked around the whole island. It didn’t take even thirty minutes which meant that the island was very small. Night came. I wanted to pee so I went among the trees and suddenly, I heard some noise. When I looked back, I saw that it was my friend that was lost. I was so happy.

Morning finally came. We all woke up happily. Now, we were all reunited. We found some fruits and ate them for breakfast. We were cold so we decided to make a fire. We looked for wood and branches. It was very hard to make a fire. We did the best we could. We made the fire by using friction. Finally, we had a large fire and a lot of smoke. Suddenly, one of my friends heard a boat’s sound. We quickly made the fire bigger.

The fire was very strong as if many trees were burning. The boat came to us when it saw the smoke so we went safely back home. We weren’t able to believe that we arrived home. We continued travelling after that and visited many more countries. We travelled around the world. We became very rich because we found treasure. We were very famous and we lived happily ever after.

Student Essay - Kim Min Gyo, Year 7, Sayfol International School - My Mother

Kim Min Gyo, Year 7, Sayfol International School

My Mother

Mothers are the most important people in our lives even if they sometimes scold us. I guess most of us probably deserve the scolding for various reasons. My mother is an amazing person. She handles me with love. And she rarely punishes me. There are many reasons why she is a wonderful person.

Firstly, she cares about me and gives me lots of love. For example, she wakes me up in the mornings by kissing and nibbling me. She kisses me until I get annoyed. She also sometimes tickles me. I would say, “Stop, mum!” but she never does until I wake up. She keeps on saying, “Wake up!” Furthermore, she lets me eat whatever I want. Whatever I request, she would either cook it for or buy it for me. If I say that I want to eat tom yum, for example, she would buy it for me because she can’t cook it. If I say I want to eat something for lunch, she would pack it for me.

Secondly, she loves animals. If it is a baby animal, she would adore it even more. She is especially mad about puppies. She used to have puppies before I was born. Whenever I show her a picture of a puppy, she would smile. She also likes cats and kittens. I had cats a few years ago. It was my mother who toilet-trained them. Once, she saw a stray cat and brought it home. I told her I wanted it and she allowed me to keep it.

Thirdly, she gets angry when I do something wrong because I deserve it. The reason is that I did something really bad. For example, if I don’t work hard at Math, she gets mad. She says that Math is one of the most important subjects. I must do well in Math if I want to go to college. Moreover, she looks hard for my mistakes. If I make grammar mistakes in my English homework, she shouts at me. If I sit for an exam and get low marks for it, she scolds me. She does all this because she wants me to be a better person.

In conclusion, my mother is a caring, loving and warm-hearted person even if she sometimes reprimands me. Her scolding may be bitter medicine for now, but it will be sweet in the future because I will be successful, thanks to her. I love my mother. I will repay her love by studying harder.

Student Essay - Gloria Min Ye Young, Year 7, Taylor’s International School - My Mother

Gloria Min Ye Young, Year 7, Taylor’s International School

My Mother

My mother’s name is Kwan Hai Jin. She is 38 years old. She is the most powerful person in our family. She is the queen in my home. I cannot live without her. She is a wonderful mother.

Firstly, my mother is like a friend. She listens to my problems very seriously. When I was very sad and tired, she told me what to do and I could overcome it. I was crying and my mother hugged me without saying anything. It was very effective. She is always curious about my boyfriends and my stories and I can tell her everything because I trust her completely. Moreover, we watch dramas and do exercises together. When I said that I wanted to watch some drama, she said she also wanted to watch it so we watch it together every day.

Secondly, my mother is a good chef. My friends also like my mother’s food. She works as a cooking instructor. She has taught me to cook many dishes. She’s a famous cooking teacher in Kuala Lumpur. Everyone wants to learn cooking from her.  When I was nine years old, she baked me a delicious cheesecake. It is my favourite type of cake. I like only my mother’s cheesecake. Other than the cake, she also made Korean food and local food for my birthday party.

Lastly, she is a good teacher. Sometimes, she is my Math teacher. Whenever I don’t know how to solve a Math question, she teaches me very patiently. She can take up to two hours to teach me three pages but she doesn’t give up. When she is teaching me, I don’t notice the time passing. Furthermore, when I ask her questions, she answers all the questions very clearly. My mother is a Liberal Arts graduate so she also teaches me History. I like Korean history. When I ask her about history, she tells me the events in an interesting way. When she is describing the events, I can understand them very easily.

In conclusion, I don’t think I can learn, talk or exercise without my mother. Until I get married, I will live with my mother. She is the best mother in the world.

Student Essay - Taking the wrong bus in error – by Henry Hong Seok Min, Year 7, ELC International School

Taking the wrong bus in error – by Henry Hong Seok Min, Year 7, ELC International School

It was a gloomy day. I felt kind of depressed when I woke up at five o’clock in the morning and looked out of the window. I looked in the mirror on the bedside table and saw that my face looked horrible. Before I slept, I hadn’t dried my hair properly so now, it was all standing up. I looked kind of funny.  I took my first step out of bed. I felt so tired. I walked very slowly to the toilet, took my toothpaste and brushed my teeth. I put my clothes on slowly and walked out of my house.

I felt a breeze on my face and I could hear birds chirping and cars’ engines roaring. As usual, the shops were open and people were walking around. I walked to the bus stop. I saw many people waiting for the bus. I must have waited for about five minutes. Then the clouds started to disappear. A small ray of sunshine brightened my face. I was starting to feel better than I did when I first woke up. The bus came. It looked very unusual. The bus was very big and it was rainbow coloured. I took a seat which had a pink cushion on it. After a few minutes, I looked out of the window. The place outside looked very unfamiliar. So, I asked the driver the number of the bus. He said it was 221. Suddenly, I felt terribly depressed. This bus was going to the airport! The driver said he couldn’t stop the bus as we were on the motorway.

When I was going to call the work manager, I realised that I had left my phone at home! I borrowed the bus driver’s phone and called my manager. When I told him what had happened, I was so nervous that I nearly vomited. Luckily, the manager was very understanding. I felt so relieved that my legs were shaking and I almost fainted. In a relief, I sat on my seat. I heard classical music playing. The bus driver had switched the radio on. I could hear violins, cellos, double bases and violas. My eyes started to close. When I opened them and looked out of the window, I could see the airport.
The driver said that he had completed his shift and would drop me off at my workplace on his way back to town. When the bus stopped at my workplace, I thanked him and alighted. However, the place looked very suspicious. There should have been a shop beside my office but there was a clinic instead. When I ran into my office building, I saw that the people who came in and out looked different. I asked one of them the name of the building. Unfortunately, the building was KB Building and my building was BK Building. I’d given the bus driver the wrong direction.

I walked very slowly in despair. I felt like tears were about to burst from my eyes. I found a public phone. So, I called my manager. He shouted at me asking me if I was stupid. I apologised and cried. The sun started to disappear and clouds started to appear. Then, tiny droplets of water started to fall from the sky. The water was cold and heavy. I sat at the bus stop and waited from bus 212.

Student Essay - The Trip – by Eric Kim Dong Uk, Year 7, Fairview International School

The Trip – by Eric Kim Dong Uk, Year 7, Fairview International School

My friends and I were all packed and ready for our trip to Malaysia. I was very excited when I got on the airplane. We were going to stay there for three weeks. As I sat down on the seat, I felt a little nervous because I thought the airplane might crash and kill me and my friends. Fortunately, I managed to stop worrying and as the plane lifted off, I closed my eyes and went to sleep.

All of a sudden, I heard a beeping sound and people panicking. I had no idea what was happening and started to worry. I stood up and wanted to ask my friends what had happened. However, I couldn’t see them anywhere. I was starting to get more worried. When I found them, they were panicking too much to even listen to my question. I was going to look for a flight attendant to ask what was happening, but suddenly, everything felt as if it was falling. Then the airplane crashed into the water.

I opened my eyes. I thought I was dead because it was so bright. I could feel my hands and body and then I knew I wasn’t dead. I saw myself lying on a piece of the wing from the plane that was floating on the water, completely shattered. I felt too tired to get up. I felt hungry, lost and just dumbfounded. I looked everywhere and I couldn’t see any of my friends. The more I looked, the hungrier and dizzier I felt. After that, all I saw was pitch black.

I woke up. Instead of continuing to starve, I decided to try to fish. I hoped I could find some fish or anything to eat. The only things I had was a necklace and broken pieces of the airplane. I knew I couldn’t fish like that but I was too hungry. It felt like eternity trying to get something to eat. Then I heard something. I was too hungry to figure out what it was.

I looked up to see what it was. I couldn’t believe it. It was a helicopter! I screamed as loudly as I could. The people in the helicopter lowered a ladder. I got into the helicopter with relief. They gave me some food to eat. I went home safe and happy that I was still breathing.
