How to get in shape – Joanne Cho Ae Tae, Year 5, Australian International School

I think almost everyone has thought about getting in shape. Even some primary school kids want to lose weight. Unfortunately, many of us do not really know how to lose weight. Here are some tips on how to get in shape.

Firstly, you shouldn’t eat after seven o’clock in the evening. If you eat late at night, it’s difficult for the food to digest. Because you will be going to bed soon, you will not move a lot. If you do not move, it will be easier to gain weight. In fact, it is easier to gain weight at night than it is in the morning or afternoon. If you feel hungry at night, drink some milk. You can also eat some plain yoghurt but not too much. Milk is a dairy product so it will make you feel full but don’t drink too much. If you drink too much fluids in the night, you face will look swollen the next day. It’s better to drink fresh milk or low-fat milk. I know a friend to drank too much full cream milk and ended up gaining weight rather than losing weight!

Secondly, you need to exercise every day. Exercising will help you to lose weight and also make you healthy. If you skip rope or play basketball, it will make you grow taller and fitter. My father’s friend plays basketball. Because he jumped a lot, he grew to be 162 centimetres by the time he was in Year 5. If you exercise, you will drink more water and it will be good for your body. Moreover, exercising will help you maintain your weight after you have got in shape. If you have been on a diet before, you will realise that after you get in shape, you may regain the weight you have lost if you are not careful. It is better to keep on exercising so that you do not put all that weight back on again.

Thirdly, you need to eat healthily. Exercising alone cannot help you to get in shape. If you eat lots of fast food or salty food, you will not lose weight even if you exercise. Have you ever seen a thin person who eats junk food all day? If you eat only oily food or junk food, you will also find it hard to get in shape. You need to eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Vegetables and fuits are good for your health and body. Some of the fruits and vegetables help you to get in shape easily. You will go to the toilet more often after consuming them, which means that you will lose your fat and weight quickly.

In conclusion, these are the things to do if you want to get in shape. At first, you won’t see any difference. After some persistence, you sill begin to see and feel a lot of difference!
