Setting

Lesson 3: SETTING

Now that you have a conflict in your story, let's start thinking about setting.

Setting is the place and time a story takes place:

1. Time:

A story can occur in the past, present or future. For example, Snow White is set in the past, Harry Potter is set in the present and Star Wars is set in the future.

It can be set in summer, fall, winter or spring.

It can also be set in the morning, afternoon, evening or night.

2. Place:

A story can occur in many different places - at home, in school, in a foreign country, in the jungle, in the desert, at sea, in space and so on.

For some stories, setting is very important. For example, if you are writing a horror story, you may want to describe to your reader the graveyard where the story takes place.

Homework 3

Okay, now it is time to think of settings for a story about:

1. A birthday party

2. An accident

3. A loving couple

4. An adventure

5. A beggar
