Different Types of Conflict

Lesson 2: DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONFLICT

If you have done Homework 1, you may have realized that there are different kinds of conflict:

1.
Internal - the main character struggles with a decision he has to make.

For example - Tom wants to go to a party but he has to study for an exam.

2.
External - the main character struggles with something outside of himself. There are 3 types of external conflict:

(a)
Man vs. Man - the main character struggles against another character in the story. eg. his rival.

(b)
Man vs. Circumstances - the main character struggles against his circumstances eg. poverty.

(c)
Man vs. Society - the main character struggles against the ideas of society eg. the idea that women should stay at home.

Homework 2

Now that you are aware of the different types of conflict, I would like to you write down some examples of the different types of conflict:

1. Internal (Man vs. Himself)

2. Man vs. Man

3. Man vs. Circumstances
